Airwell Portable Sampling units were initially designed to aid in the sample testing of bore fields in the Mining industry. Conventional methods of collecting samples in many cases struggled with the harsh environment offered by the sample bores in remote locations. Poor water quality, a high percentage of grit or suspended solids and variable recharge rates meant the sample pump spent more time being repaired than working, causing a considerable loss in time and maintenance costs.
The Airwell sampling units use the same direct air displacement method of pumping the water as its conventional bore pumps. The process involves the filling of a submerged pump vessel with water, and expelling that fluid from the vessel using compressed air (or other gas if required) acting on the surface of the water to 'push' it up the riser.
The above picture shows our standard 44.5mm bore sampling unit, which is suitable for taking water samples from a depth of up to 120 metres. In bores less than 20m deep the pump is capable of a flow rates up to 700L/hour from 50mm bores, whilst by using our larger pumps (up to 102mm) specials can be built capable of pumping up to 1 litre/sec. The pumps are all capable of handling muddy and gritty water without damage to the pump.

High accuracy bore flow testing
Airwell have also branched out into high accuracy bore flow testing and data collection.
Standard equipment consists of:
- VSD controlled electric submersible in conjunction with a Magflow meter on the discharge line to assure a stable flow rate.
- Pressure transducer/s to monitor draw down level/s
- Data logger taking a snapshot of flow rate and drawdown level/s every 10 seconds.
Airwell will then compile this information for you in electronic and written formats for ease of use.
